I struggled with this for a very long time ... But i recently found WP All Import .. It has an add on for Woocommerce and it's flawless ! It's a little bit pricey but it really does do what it says .. I've used it without the add-on for numerous csv & xml affiliate feeds and it has never failed on any format ! It allows you to map the fields from the feed to the fields within Wordpress or Woocommerce using a Drag & Drop interface .. really simple. The standard version doesn't work with variable products, which is why i recently purchased the Woocom Add On .. which makes life very simple.
Just so you know, i have nothing to do with the developers and this is truly the first time i have ever "plugged" a plugin. But i searched for something like this for nearly 2 years. There is a limited free version, so i suggest you give it a try .. Good luck !
